Sixty-six global lottery groups have teamed up for a U.S.-based holiday initiative. Their goal is to increase understanding of the dangers of underage gambling, especially the connection between early gambling exposure and future issues.
This initiative, known as “Gift Responsibly,” emphasizes that lottery tickets are unsuitable presents for children. They are utilizing advertisements, online platforms, and even retailer conversations to spread the word.
The specialists behind this endeavor, including organizations like the National Council on Problem Gambling, are concerned due to the increasing prevalence of gambling. They argue that it’s easy to overlook that even young individuals can develop gambling-related problems. This campaign has been active for six years, demonstrating the significance they place on this matter.
This consciousness-raising initiative is a collaborative endeavor, endorsed by every lottery entity in the United States and Canada – without exception – alongside numerous global lottery and non-lottery associations. The campaign’s official approval from prominent stakeholders like the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries, the World Lottery Association, and European Lotteries is highly significant. Keith Whyte, the top official at the NCPG, acknowledged all the lottery and civic organizations that joined forces to disseminate information about the possible risks of gambling among minors. This initiative comes on the heels of the NCPG’s recent declaration regarding their Autumn 2023 funding program, which is allocating nearly $200,000 to bolster five non-profit organizations addressing problematic gambling throughout the US.
