The opulent new Crown Resort in Sydney has finally debuted, but there’s a hitch: the casino, intended to be its primary attraction, is absent.
Back in 2013, the New South Wales administration approved a high-roller casino. However, Crown Resorts became embroiled in significant legal issues, prompting the state gaming authority to suspend all gaming permits indefinitely.
Presently, a major investigation is underway, probing accusations of illicit financial activities and questionable ties to criminal syndicates. This reflects poorly on Crown!
For the time being, Crown Sydney holds provisional authorizations for its dining establishments to serve alcoholic beverages, but these will require renewal shortly. The true obstacle lies in obtaining the gaming license. The Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority (ILGA) awaits the findings of a comprehensive inquiry before reaching a decision.
Therefore, after four years and a staggering $2.2 billion investment, the lavish hotel and eateries at Barangaroo are operational, yet the casino floor remains strikingly silent.
Adding insult to injury, the ongoing inquiry in New South Wales has also prompted an expedited review of Crown’s gaming permit in Victoria, originally slated for 2023. It appears Crown’s fortunes have dwindled.
A committed representative will oversee the examination, and the results will be submitted to the Victorian administration the following year.
