Macau Legend Development’s leader, Alvin Chau Cheok Wa, has been remanded in custody following accusations of directing a secret society.
Chau’s initial apprehension stemmed from suspected financial wrongdoing and illicit transnational gaming operations. This recent turn of events follows authorities’ deeper examination of Chau’s connections to Suncity Group CEO, Alvin Chau, who was apprehended in November 2021. Prosecutors at the time accused Alvin Chau of overseeing a “criminal enterprise” rather than a triad, with the latter carrying a more severe penalty under Macau’s legal system.
The Public Prosecutions Office contends that Chau Cheok Wa conspired with Alvin Chau’s illicit network to conduct unlawful wagering activities and engage in money laundering.
Four persons, including Chau Cheok Wa, were apprehended last Friday. However, following a local magistrate’s decision, only Chau Cheok Wa remains incarcerated.
The Public Prosecutions Office asserted that the alleged criminal actions of these four individuals “adversely affected Macau’s societal harmony, as well as the stability and ongoing growth of Macau’s gaming sector.”
Chau Cheok Wa is presently facing four counts.
The head honcho is taking a tumble. They’re whispering fifteen years – organized crime, dirty money, the entire shebang. They even nailed him for operating some questionable betting ring out the rear of a gambling den. Would you believe it? A gambling den!
