The Keystone State achieved a new high mark for monthly income in the third month of the year.
Pennsylvania’s gambling income in March hit an all-time high of $554.6 million (£444.7 million/€519.3 million), fueled by record-breaking performance in the digital gambling sector.
Pennsylvania’s March income was up 7.6% from $515.3 million in March 2023, up 11.1% from $449.1 million in February, and also surpassed the prior monthly record of $534.2 million set in December.
Traditional slot machines were once again the primary source of income, generating $227.9 million in March, an increase of 1.1%. This is despite the number of slot machines decreasing from 25,643 to 24,886.
However, income from land-based table games dropped 0.8% to $85.2 million in the month.
Pennsylvania’s online gambling sets a new monthly record
In the digital market, total online gambling income reached $191.1 million, up 29.0%, setting a new monthly record.
Online slot machine income increased 29.3% to $135.5 million, while internet table game income also increased 31.2% to $53.1 million. In contrast, online poker income fell 14.4% to $2.5 million in March.
Pennsylvania’s Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course remains the leader in the field, with online gambling income of $72.3 million. Valley Forge Casino Resort again came in second, reporting income of $50.8 million, followed by Rivers Casino Philadelphia with $32.8 million.
The sports betting market continued to decline.
The flourishing video game industry in Pennsylvania is a positive sign, however, the sports wagering market is experiencing a downturn.
Online gaming earnings in Pennsylvania experienced a 10.0% decrease in March, reaching $45.6 million, marking the second consecutive month of decline. Online gaming earnings constituted 93% of total earnings in March, while physical gambling revenue amounted to $3.2 million.
Despite this, Pennsylvania players still spent 10.7% more in March, reaching $723.5 million.
Valley Forge Casino Resort and its partner FanDuel continue to dominate the Pennsylvania sports betting market, with earnings of $24.4 million in March, with players wagering $333.2 million.
Hollywood Meadows Casino and DraftKings secured second place once again, with total bets of $209.2 million and earnings of $10.7 million. Hollywood Morgantown Casino, in collaboration with BetMGM, took third place with $51.9 million in bets and $1.8 million in earnings.
Regarding earnings from other gambling activities in Pennsylvania, video lottery terminal revenue decreased by 0.5% to $3.7 million. Fantasy sports revenue declined by 21.1% to $1.1 million.
