The Czech gambling behemoth Sazka Group has declared that tech mogul and Lastminute.com originator Brent Hoberman has joined an advisory panel to back its endeavor for a fourth national lottery permit.
Sazka has enlisted Hoberman, the architect of Lastminute.com, to aid in the national lottery bid. Hoberman will primarily offer integration and administration counsel on technology and digital advancement for Sazka’s national lottery strategies.
Sazka stated that its crew intends to utilize Hoberman’s expertise in tech innovation to enhance customer satisfaction and player protection, better assist retailers and the gambling commission, and bolster fundraising for charitable causes.
Hoberman joins the panel backing bid chairman Sir Keith Mills, who was chosen in November to lead the bid for Sazka.
In 1998, Hoberman established online travel vendor Lastminute.com, which was sold to technology firm Sabre in 2005 for $1.1 billion.
He subsequently founded Founders Factory and Founders Forum, where he remains executive chairman, both of which collaborate with founders and businesses globally to construct, finance, and scale startups.
The National Lottery’s bidding advisory panel last week recruited former Samba CEO Justin King as its retail consultant. The panel will be comprised of experts from diverse fields, including public service, player safety, and amusement.
Hobberman, commenting on his appointment, stated: “The UK needs a digitally-focused, technologically dependable, accessible, and relatable National Lottery that connects with audiences accustomed to consuming media and entertainment through a variety of different channels.”

Mills added that Hobberman’s experience across numerous fields was a key reason for bringing him on board.

Sazka, the leading contender, has confirmed their intention to participate in the bidding for the National Lottery license. They finalized their response to the Gambling Commission’s inquiry last fall. The successful bidder will secure a decade-long agreement to manage the lottery, commencing when Camelot’s current extension concludes in July 2023.
Sugal & Damani, an Indian lottery operator and technology provider, has also declared their bid. Camelot has also completed the Gambling Commission’s questionnaire but has not yet revealed their decision regarding participation.
